I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around,
and don't let anybody tell you different

Smack, Crack, Bushwhacked

I just hope that in four years time, I will look back at W's second term and find my current fears to have been exaggerated. Time will tell.

But right now, it seems to me that Bush, strengthened by a popular majority and a firm Republican hold on the Senate, could become even more radical than he has been so far. Nevermind his talk about bridging the divide, or unifying America - this man is about to create a lasting legacy. And I fear that the next four years might bring about changes, both in America and, naturally, the entire world, that will shape the nature of international politics for much of my lifetime.

Who knows. To repeat the first sentence, just to make this post look a bit more optimistic: Maybe - just maybe - in January 2009, when it's all over, and America has a new President (and a new Vice President?), we will all look back and say that one sentence that I love so much: It could have been worse.
